Cookies. Investiture/Rededication Ceremony date set

Hi parents!

Last week, Diane and Janalee from Jazzercise taught the troop a dance to the song, "Call Me Maybe".  The girls worked hard, (as was evidenced by all the sweat and needs for water breaks)!  This was a fast-paced dance, but the girls did a great job keeping up!  Janalee also fulfilled a request to do a "freeze dance" with the troop.  There was a cool down at the end and the troop formed a huddle to shout out a loud "THANK YOU!" to Janalee and Diane.  I suspected you had some tired out girls by the end of the night!

This week we will be having a visit from Libby, from the regional Girl Scout office to discuss selling cookies to our troop.  We will also be practicing for our Investiture/Rededication Ceremony that will be held in the UES cafeteria on Thursday, the 30th from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Please be sure to have your girls bring their sashes.

See you all soon!

Hi all!

Here's an update to what your Brownies have been up to....

The girls wrote a lovely "thank you" poster to Chloe, a cadet Girl Scout who has been helping us out in our meetings.  Chloe's troop recently dissolved due to girls moving on and graduating, so Chloe had the idea to donate their funds to our troop and to the Junior troop.  We are incredibly grateful, as this money will help us with rent, badges, pins and other materials we may need.

The girls worked hard to complete their sewing badge!  The 2nd graders sewed parts of their sashes, all girls used an iron to iron on some patches and all girls used a thread and needle to sew some shapes onto fabric.  Jean brought in a sewing machine so all girls had an opportunity to get a feel for what it's like to sew with a machine!

Your Brownies are now working on their dance badge. The first step of the badge is to learn to warm-up by dancing to some music.  Rebecca randomly called out some dance moves for the girls to do during the song.  There were lots of smiles and giggles through this meeting!  Last meeting, the girls pretended to be a Girl Scout from the 1930s.  They learned how to stand properly, how to walk and how to curtsy!  I had to practice the curtsy before I was able to show the girls how to do a simple curtsy, then a deep curtsy (also called  a court curtsy), as it isn't easy!  Have your girls teach you how to stand, walk and curtsy!  (No slouching or dragging your feet!)  This "how to" can help!  http://www.wikihow.com/Curtsy

The following YouTube video will teach you, parents, how to do the Macarena (if you didn't already learn it in your college days)!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlzwuFkn88U   This was a dance the girls quickly learned at our last meeting.  Girls also shared dance moves they have learned.  There was ballet, modern dance, Jazzercise and line dancing!  We have such a great group of talented girls!

We are meeting in the cafeteria for our next meeting on 1/16.  Janalee and Diane from Jazzercise will come to teach the girls another dance!

Look forward to information about our Investiture Ceremony, which we hope to schedule for the 23rd of this month.

Keep dancing!
Lara
